If you want to criticize the current state of affairs, join that paid RR forum.

Despite the claims of some that the program is going downhill, this is a very exciting project. This is attracting more non-railroad press and attention than any train move ever. It made the AP and the national news. THIS is the type of PR UP wants their program to achieve.

So what if none of the other locomotives get out for excursion this year? This project has kept the crew busy for a while, and this is way bigger and better for the company than an 844 photo run. UP doesn't run steam for the rail fans or the old timers. They do it to attract corporate sponsors. They do it to attract new business. They send it out to RR towns as a way to schmooze with the state and local politicians. This 4014 is achieving all that and more.

I'm very excited about it and I look forward to the bright future ahead of the steam program.
