I saw that video. What a pile of bullbleep!
Nobody gets on or off a train that way, especially a professional. He was not climbing anything. The leg was raised high and sticking out so as to deliberately contact the head. And without that action, there would have likely been no contact at all.
The nut case was still standing too close for safety, but the fact that the leg had to be extended to make contact, plainly says the crewman or the engine itself would not have hit him. Unless of course, he lost his balance and fell against the train; not an improbable possibility. But the fact is, that the extended foot could have hooked him and dragged him into the train, making this a fatal assault. It could have also knocked the trainman off the steps and killed him too.
It was just as stupid, as was the kid was in standing so close. And was absolutely uncalled for. Hopefully, a well deserved reprimand was issued.
But now that the dirty deeds are done, maybe the video could have some atoning educational value. For instance, a short spot ad could show the event, with an announcer saying "Don't be a blockhead, stay away from train tracks"; or something of that sort. It also could mention that fatal contact could occur with any number of errant objects that could be hanging off the side of a passing train.
