Now we are going to visit the gator's big sisters.
Southern Pacific C628 3115 and C630 3151 contribute to the dirty fog of West Colton, CA on a gloomy November 17, 1974.
Reportedly (
sources) SP 3115 was built in May 1964 as ALCo C628 demonstrator 628-2. According to Joe Strapac's SP Compendium books it was purchased in Nov. 1964 and became SP 4871 SP Class DF-505. In the 1965 renumbering it became SP 7101 SP Class AF-628-1 In October 1973 it was downgraded to switcher status becoming SP 3115 Alco C628, SP Class AS628-1. In April 1979 it was sold and scrapped.
I used to love going to SoCal to chase the big ALCos!
