A slight step back one number this morning.
SP Alco C628 3114 in Colton Yard, West Colton, California, USA, December 29, 1973.
Reportedly (
sources), according to Strapac, SP 3114 was shipped in April 1965 as SP 4857, construction number 3401-13, SP Class DF-504. In 1965 it was renumbered SP 7116, SP Class AF628-2. In Sept. 1973 it was downgraded to switcher status and became 3114, SP Class AS628-1.
According to Adam Twiss on Facebook (April 23, 2014) "It was downgraded to switcher status. The Centuries had their transition switches deactivated so they were limited to 25 MPH as a result of this as their last assignment was at West Colton. The units handled the east end of the yard while the new SD38-2s handled the west end of the yard as well as the hump as they were equipped with pacesetter controls."
3114 was retired in April 1979 and scrapped the following summer.
