IIRC, the krauts were built in that particular shape because of tunnel clearances in Germany- where they were tested. I really don't know if any of them were built for any other European railroads besides the few for SP and three for D&RGW. I imagine that the tunnels were much shorter when the rotaries were being produced, and reflected on the overall "style" of the unit.
Wasn't there a kraut model that had external walkways?
Also, are rotaries wider than a standard say, boxcar?
Furthermore, what RPM do rotaries max out at?
