On an unknown date in 1973, a then quite common Southern Pacific Alco S6 1215 pulls a string of cars past the passenger station at Martienez. NOTE: Some people don't like to hear SW1500's called "cruds" but they were to those of us who so enjoyed the classic Alcos, FMs and Baldwins they replaced.
Reportedly (
sources) S6 SP 1215 was built by ALCo in June 1955 as SP 1048, SP Class DS-1, construction number 81298, order number S-3242. It became SP 1215, SP Class AS409-1 in the 1965 renumbering. It was retired and in July 1979 it was sold and scrapped with the engine being salvaged for marine use.
