Regarding Dick's comments about the rails in the sidewalk....
Those old rails had to be cut with a saw and a large 4-foot chunk was left in the contractor's yard at the head of Eastlake Avenue near the ship canal bridge of I-5..
I saw it there along with historian Warren Wing and it was encrusted with concrete.

For the uninitiated, "MEHVA" is the 'Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association', of which I am a member.
