I was in Skykomish last Tuesday to volunteer at the museum. It was snowing hard in the morning. For the first time anyone could remember they were loading snow in dump cars to be hauled out of town. Snow was more than 4 feet on the flat and piled about 12 feet high all over the place.
Last night they were plowing in advance of Amtrak going east. On the east side of the tunnel, they have a camera on the fan house that looks at the tunnel door. The dispatcher said he could not see the door due to heavy snow falling.
Listening to the radio today: the power is out in Sky, the Stevens Pass ski area is closed due to the weather, with the power out the section crews are hand pumping fuel for their rigs. Several have said they are using fuel from the reserve. Traffic is moving and the crews are working in between trains.
However, rain is on the way for the next few days, if NOAA weather has it right. So it will be a new set of problems with melting snow and run-off.
I will be in Sky Tuesday again, to see whats going on.
