I don't know of any computerized system that will help or force you to choose the right word where meaning is the issue. That's not really Grammar. It requires understanding of the syntax of the language AND the context of the writing.

Having people write news stories who have no idea what the area they're writing about looks like (or maybe even where it is), what the subject they're writing about is, and who do not have the language of the area as a first or excellent second language, can be relied upon to choose the wrong word if offered a choice. They have no context within which to make the choice. They will then be very consistent about that choice, which might become the standard for their organization. And so the language changes ...
