One can expect a lot of misinformation when bold proposals such as this are under discussion.
It is safe to assume the union's leadership has long been familiar with the proposal. Below is a link to a letter from International VP John Babler lending support. In addition, a senior national legislative representative (and SMART/UTU engineer from North Dakota) has been quoted offering some support.
