Not true.

Two 7 mile tunnels and all faults crossed at grade; maximum gradient for the Tejon route around 3.5%. The problem is the Tejon Mountain Village and its planned golf course.

Tehachapi detour now is considering a 15 mile quasi-base tunnel Sylmar to Palmdale. The DogLeg is billions more expensive and considerably longer and slower than Tejon.
