Wouldn't surprise me if the county upped track speed at some points on the line to Class 2 or 3 with their DMU / commuter rail proposal. Plus in many places between Santa Cruz and Watsonville there are places you could really get up to a good clip if the track suited it, which it would if ya wanted to have "SMART 2.0" zipping around.

Actually, that begs the question--why not run on SMART between two turning facilities on a weekend? Could bill it as a regional heritage thing and run with all those Daylight cars trapped out in Asti, assuming they're operable.
