We had the originals plus we made a set of spares. Those new ones you saw were the spares. Mike got the tig torch out and welded them together after we had them bent out of stainless. Wish I took pictures of them. The sides are solid stainless sheet metal and the centers that ride against the axle were perforated sheet metal. For the originals, all we did was change out the grease that was inside them from the SP and put in new grease.
We got the new hard grease from the GGRM (a pallet of it) and cut the grease blocks to make the cakes that went into the screns. An interesting and messy job.
To answer another query, there is a HUGE difference between an engine that pokes around at 15mph that has 50" drivers and an engine with 73" drivers. Sure, you could convert the 2467 to an oil lubrication system, but it is a LOT of work and fabrication. Different contour on the journal brasses, plus all new oil cellars and gaskets. We used to tease Errol about doing that. He'd jump up and yell "If we're going to do all that crap, we might as well convert the engine to roller bearings!!!"
