Hi there,
a few days ago, Dick S. recommended a book on the history of Interbay in Seattle. I am gonna check that out. I was wondering if anyone can recommend other books or good sources of info on rail history in Seattle. I have Armbruster's book (orphan road), which is good but covers only a small period and doesnt have all i am looking for. I am interested in knowing things like how the current yards were sited (Argo and Stacy); where did there used to be yards that dont exist anymore; why and when these decisions were made, and so forth. Another question I had after reading Armbruster's book: he mentions that UP in 1908 or so began drilling a second tunnel under seattle, going into the hillside near 5th and washington. this is a block or two east of the GN/BNSF tunnel and closer to maybe where the Metro bus tunnel is. from what i can tell he never says what happened to this tunnel, how far they got or whatever. anyhow, thanks.
