As construction of the twin DSTP tunnels started at that exact site, I watched from the concrete railings above. No evidence of previous activity.

Our construction did pass through the expected site of Seattle's first coal gasification plant, just North of Jackson Street. This plant was replaced by the North Lake Union plant that furnished the local market until Canadian natural gas arrived in the late forties - early 50s.
