Ex-SP 2472 returns toSteam after 6 years

After six years of boiler work costing over a quarter of a million dollars, Golden Gate RR museums
ex SP 2472 Pacific returned to steam yesterday at hosts Niles Canyon Railway. The engine was fired up Saturday morning and adjustments were made to a number of appliances and checks for leaks wwas made. Regular passenger operations prevented test runs on Sunday. Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, after taking on over 3000 gallons of oil, the engine made several runs on the main line within the limits of Brightside Yard. Around 1 pm. GGRM # 3a former Navy Diesel added the UP RPO (last surviving car from the famed COSF SNOWBOUND STREAMLINER at Yuba Pass 1952)and the ex SP business Car "Oakland" and headed for Sunol to tak on water. The train backed up to Brightside and made several trips to Sunol to check on lubrication and hot journnals. No problems were found and the consist returned to Brightside around 6 pm. Several public excursions are planned in the very near future. Information can be found out from the Pacific Locomotive Association, Northern California RR Club, and the Golden Gate RR Museum.
