GE has (or had) a huge home appliance manufacturing facility
on the outskirts of Louisville, KY. It was so big it had it's
own zip code.
In the late 1970's the employment level there was around 23,000,
nearly all of whom were IBEW.
Back then, individual buildings would go on strike over something
real or imagined. That would shut the whole place down, and as
soon as that was sorted out, another building would strike.
Today, the facility employs about 6,000 people and is up for sale,
if it hasn't sold already. GE began moving work out and automating
the place to put an end to that crap.
Wonder how the 17,000 or so who lost their jobs over the years felt.
