The answer is that nobody will ever abandon it. You abandon it and you're responsible for the
clean up ie the "polluted" ROW along the Eel River. The salvage would most likely have to be by
rail or road graded as the track is pulled but even that would create contamination on it's own.
It's like the Sierra Pacific mill in Arcata, it'll be a museum before it ever gets another use.
The oil soak around the maintenance shop is feet deep and along side the "enviro swamp" of all
times. We used to get told not to park too close to the top of berm lest we roll dirt down into
the water.
