Land owners between Oakesdale and Thornton have been very vocal on not allowing the line to be rebuilt without a fight.
Amazing, but not surprising. I just looked at the area in question on Acme Mapper satellite view. All of the old R/W betweeen Thornton and Oakesdale parallels public roads. For the most part, the track used to lie within 50-75 feet of the current road R/W. It isn't like the old line bisected a field, and now there's a nice big undisturbed plot that would be cut in two by the rebuilt railroad.
