Anyone looking around the UP Stockton, CA shops this week will find newly custom-built F40PH-3C ACE 3106 sitting there in the ACE section of the yard. It was delivered by the UP to Stockton on Saturday Jan 13, coming in from Boise via Hinkle Yard and Roseville Yard. ACE had Boise custom-build a single new F40PH-3C instead of purchasing one of the MP-36s like all of the other commuter railroads are operating now (the ACE Rail Operations Director was not impressed by the MP-36s). Like all of the other ACE F40PH-3Cs, the 3106 is a completely new locomotive, not a rebuilt ex-AMT F40. It will probably be a few weeks before the 3106 is seen in regular service, because it usually takes that much time to be put through acceptance trials at Stockton (with runs to Tracy and back).
