I asked Doyle about this very question a few years ago and he said the only reason 4449 does not ever use the north leg of the wye at steel bridge is because the curve is too tight on the wye for the locomotive. Plus there are tight curves on the south end heading into and out of Albina yard. This is also why UP does not bring 844 through here and just displays in the Albina yard when visiting Portland.
