The amazing thing about reading these articles is the other articles that are next to them. Articles about the a-bomb and VE day and what not. Meanwhile, Marin is desperately trying to prevent the government from basically turning half of southern Marin into a military base.

Everyone is thinking about the peace after the war and planning for the future, and you can bet the army had hopes of nabbing some real estate for the long run while the getting was good, and easy.

In the end, the NIMBY's didn't really have much of a say. The Army was tearing down houses and building the rail spur and what not right up until Japan surrendered.

But it's a kick to read the editorial on August 9th taking the army to task about the need for an ammo dump in Marin given the advent of the nuclear age that week.
