Former OPR Geep/Slug Set on the move

Former Oregon Pacific 1810 and slug 1010 have been interchanged to the BNSF for movement to a new Archer Daniels Midland grain elevator at Hugoton, Kansas. They will move over the BNSF via Denver through Pueblo and then east to Dodge City where they will interchange to the Cimmeron Valley for final delivery. Shipment was delayed by the requirement to install alignment control couplers.

They are paintd light gray with a blue stripe and yellow handrails and moving as SFGX 1810 and SFGX 1010 (for Santa Fe Trail Grain Elevator).

The 1810 is and ex-Alaska Railroad unit and starred as the second unit in "Under Siege II-Dark Territory". The slug is the ex-SP 1010 yard slug, the only known remaining one of the 1010-1013
series built by GE in 1980.

The OPR crew did all of the prep work and painting as well as installing the slug contactors, power cables and controls. Both units are equipped with the ZTR "BOA" traction control system.

While we will miss them, the important part is that the historic slug lives on in a new life and the proceeds from the sale allowed OPR to purchase a more suitable unit in the SW-900 #901 obtained from the CRANDIC (CIC 91) last fall.
