The Washington Governor is also planning to spend $200 million plus in a plan to clean up Puget Sound. Last time I read the clean up plan that was proposed, part of the plan was to reduce pollution by reducing ship traffic and other uses of the water. If one of the clean up goals is to reduce ship traffic, how will shipping increase?? Enlarging Stampede tunnel is a good project no matter what as BNSF lacks viable detour routes and Stampede since it's reopening has proven itself more reliable than Steven's Pass or the Gorge route during the winter spring thaws. There has been a long standing rumor that UP will recieve trackage rights over Stampede as the result of this project---true or no? Is Stampede tunnel the only one that needs to be enlarged? How is BNSF planning to enlarge the tunnel---undercutting or raising the ceiling??
Thanks to those who reply.
