Cascade tunnel

GN didn't have problems venting the tunnel when the line was electrified before 1956; ventilation wasn't needed for the electrics! Of course they weren't trying to stuff 23+ trains per day over the line either.
I understood that they did not have sufficient substation capacity to move two trains upgrade at the same time. Still, this would be easier to fix than double tracking the line. They had their own hydro dam near Leavenworth and substation at Skykomish.
In retrospect,(my opinion only) they should have extended the electrification west to Interbay (Seattle) and east to Hillyard (Spokane). Also, their system also could have been converted to a 25kv or 50kv 60 cycle system.
