The old Milwaukee RR bridge at Beverly, WA is still intact and in reasonably good shape.
Rather than being controlled by the WA State Parks folks, the old bridge is under the control of Washington State's "Department of Natural Resources" ..
They refuse to "cardeck" the bridge for John Wayne Trail // Iron Horse Trail users because they are scared that hikers or bikers would get blown off of the bridge due to the excessively high winds (80-100 mph) that blow down the river thru the gorge. These same winds used to raise havoc with the Milwaukee railroad trains as well. I spoke to an oldtimer in the area
who is a retired Milwaukee locomotive engineer and he said that he lost some twelve cars into the Columbia River at Beverly due to those high winds. Hope this explains some things for you.
