Today the Cascade Tunnel is a very interesting place to visit. The whole Stevens Pass area is a railfan delight. The east portal has the fan house and door. Access is easy and there are many angles to photo the trains. DO NOT ENTER THE TUNNEL under any circumstances. Mornings are the best time for takinf photos. The west portal is also easily accessed.
The Iron Goat Trail is well worth the hike. It is eleven miles on a 2.25% grade. A pass is required and can be obtained in Skykomish at the ranger station on the highway. Good ediquite in the woods is a must. Take only pictures and leave only footprints. STAY ON THE TRAIL to keep from destroying the artifacts and landscape.
