New Tunnel For Spokane

Construction of Spokane's new north-south freeway will include a new build-it-and-cover-it tunnel on the city's north side. BNSF's ex-GN line north toward Kettle Falls (interchange with Kettle Falls International is at Chewelah?) will have a 1330-foot long tunnel built over it using pre-cast concrete panels. Spokane used to have two other tunnels, one on the SP&S south (railroad west) of Fort Wright Junction, and the other on the UP (?) near the bend in the Spokane River just west of present-day Erie Street Yard.
