Through pure Dumb Luck, the Rio Grande Zephyr that I booked tickets for happened to be the last one that went through the Thistle Landslide area on the old Rio Grande tracks.. As we gently tip - toed through the slide area, it was easy to see that the slide was coming UP from underneath the surface. There was a pronounced hump in the trackage through the slide zone. I read somewhere that the slide was the 2nd or 3rd largest landslide in recorded U.S. history. Not sure if that included Mt. Saint Helens ???
