I am a regular recipient of Access, and many of these stories are what I'd call "quasi-academic", that is written by academics, usually based on good citations, but without the footnotes, for a somewhat making them readable to a broader audience.

The next "horse manure" "crisis" is always just over the horizon.... By looking backward, and projecting forward, to conjure up the next big "crisis" (often only based on the most simplistic logic and our unreasoning fears?), we demonstrate just one of the problems with how our chimp brain functions.......

Be it evil Thomas stalking those poor unsuspecting motorists, the Tunnel trolls which will emerge like zombies from the 710 tunnel, future cancer deaths from truck and train emissions that we've already cut by 90%, fear will all too often trump fact. And, with a well orchestrated campaign of misinformation, you can easily manipulate those irrational fears even more.
