Note that "following a Highway" does not really mean, "being in the median". The curvature and grades of a highway are not suitable for high speed rail; they may be suitable for regional rail operation, however, that would lead to totally stupid station arrangements. There is nothing worse for a station to be developed than being on a highway. It is done, because it is cheap, and there are fewer NIMBYs, but that's about it.
IMHO, the only problem with the High Speed Rail line is that it is not operational yet.
