Moscow No More

Just to add a bit to this thread...sadly it appears the old P&L branch has been trimmed back even more now. I rode the last train out of Moscow, Idaho proper two weeks ago-an empty propane tanker and an idler flat. The operation will no longer go beyond WILSON, a small elevator siding near the ID/WA border.
I understand the U of Idaho has eyes on some of the rail property in Moscow and worked to see rail operations were pushed from town.
For a guy that has fond memories of both BN and UP operations going back to his college days it is a bit hard to take. The UP agent Frank Snieder was a very good friend, always with time to fill in a young fan on what was happening on the railroad. The BN agents were friendly as well. Many a night I listened to the Highball slip quietly north thru town with load after load of finished lumber headed for eastern markets- while being pulled by aging F and GP units.
So much for "progress" I guess......
