The evolution of SMART will spread over decades, well outside of my time frame. It is not viable as currently built.
Upsides of SMART are the ROW south of Novato was rebuilt instead of being paved as GGT wanted and served by buses. And the doodlebugs feature real seating and bathrooms.
It seems the new streetcars from Siemens(SF and Portland)are cattlecar, austere longitudinal seats and not many of those. I think bikes and wheelchairs should be charged extra for the room they occupy and the seats they take away. Call me Ebeneezer. Maybe the regular passengers will have to start bringing along their own folding seats like collapsible barstools.
