A couple of notes: when SP ran their shippers' special with #4449 down this line back in the 90's, they had to cut off the dome car at Medford because it wouldn't clear the tunnels south of Ashland.

Secondly, when SP was using this line in the late 1980's-early 90's, they regularly sent 60-80 car trains over the Siskiyou, 5-6 units on the point, a 4-unit helper cut in, all 6-axle power. I'm sure the line was in better shape then, but it was heavy-duty railroading! Great to watch.
