The Milwaukee Road had a similar problem in the Idaho Bitterroots in the 1970's. One of their many derailments dumped a covered hopper full of corn in the snow; with the coming of Spring the corn fermented. The local bears woke up from hibernation hungry, and began eating the corn mash. Result : Drunken Bears !!! The Forest Service allowed Milwaukee Road employees to carry side arms through the summer months.
