Transit Planner,
I'll have to promote you.
Metrolink has a much higher cost per passenger, over ten times the cost of a light rail passenger. But, it probably has a lower cost per passenger mile, due to much much longer trips.
I spent a fair amount of time in the planning and financing of most of LA's commuter rail system. and most of the light rail system, during my 47 year career. And, we did a comparison of a basic commute overlay on the 2nd District versus a full time all day light rail option, and there was no contest. Would you rather haul 50,000 trips a day on light rail a day by 2020, or only about 4,000 daily for commuter rail in the 210 corridor?
South Pasadena-Highland Park segment is one of the most beautiful segment with the high bridge and the trees along the Arroyo and through South Pas. But, it is also the location that has tree falls and requires trimming. They are still on single track operations this morning.
