This is actually true. When truckers raise their prices, shippers go to rail except as Sammie said in JIT shipments. This is especially true in the lumber industry concerning shortlines like the Sierra and the NWP. The SP found that when trucker's prices increased on long haul, the mills went to rail and traffic NWP traffic spiked. Truckers dropped prices and rail cars sat.
