Freeways are a blight and elevated freeways the worst. The experience with the Embarcadero Freeway highlights this reality and its removal has spread to the Central Freeway, possibly a chunk of I-280 and perhaps in time the rest of the Central Freeway.
The widespread rollout and evolution of the electric car and subsequent sophisticated control and guideway systems could conceivably reduce the pollution and noise associated with freeways. But it would then loom as the most potent competition to Jerry Brown's PalmdaleRail.
There are lots of possibilities of how this upgraded tech could take shape but sustained speeds of 100 to say 120mph in an automated electric vehicle would chew up the San Joaquin Valley in time to watch a couple of movies. And it would be on the proper default direct route that the Tejon Ranch Company has denied CAHSR.
The Tejon Ranch Co. is the Mother of all NIMBY's.
