I suggest the same people and the same mindset who insist on the 99 route insist on downtown stations.
If you think of CAHSR as three BART's, three regional commute ops, connected by the hokiest of backwoods mountain crossings perhaps that will explain PB's plan.
There's:
San Jose Area Rapid Transit
Palmdale Area Rapid Transit and
Fresno Area Rapid Transit.
With the shift to eastern proto-base tunnels the whole focus seems to be LA-Las Vegas HSR, even tho Sin City is not mentioned in Prop 1a. Why not tunnel straight to the heart of LA from Palmdale and shuck that stupid curve to the east north of Burbank? Who needs Burbank anyway when you have accessed Palmdale, center of the known universe?
