I think the writing is on the wall for Niles Canyon Group

Two new Californai news stories made me think about lasts weeks discussion about the expanding ACE train service into Niles Canyon
One issues was where would all the money come from to make the ACE train expansion happen..Consider this:
The California State Transportation Agency awarded Metrolink $41 million to help fund up to nine locomotives that meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 4 emission standard, the commuter-rail agency announced yesterday.
The grant was funded by the state's Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program.
Nine new locomotives, millions of dollars jsut like that. There are railroads in California operating with units from the 1950's. Why didn't they get free locomotives? Oh I forgot...tranist rail gets all the money they want. Say, it's ACE a tranist rail project also?
Also, consider this:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) on Monday transferred management of intercity passenger-rail services for the San Joaquin and Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail (LOSSAN) rail corridors to two joint powers authorities similar to the structure the state has with the Capitol Corridor route.
The transfer agreements between the state, the LOSSAN Agency (Pacific Surfliner) and San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority became effective today, Caltrans officials said in a press release.
All these new Joint Powers don't just sit around and drink water...They plan to grow and spend, and spend and spend our tax dollars...Call me me crazy but it seems to me that not only is Niles Canyon Group toast, but I could see the reactivation of the old SP west side line between Fresno and Tracy. After all, isn't this all about getting people in and out of the Santa Clara Valley?
