Interesting! I'm assuming you only saw headlights and couldn't make out the pain on the engine?

It could be that the CFNR Lombard turn went dead on the law in Napa Junction adn the UP local had to start in Napa Junction, because they use the same power. the UP job runs in the late evening.

How long was the train, if you could even tell?
