The mine is coal fired. The Mojave Northern (Cemex) crews take the UP coal trains up to the mine to be unloaded. This happens three or four times per month.

Look closely at the photos on Railpictures again. There is a magmount radio antenna on the engineer's side roof, hanging off at an angle. This is standard practice because the UP radios are not compatible with Mojave Northern's radio system.
