Having lived in Humboldt County and knowing the political climate and mentality, I can assure you that there will never be a container port built on the bay. Even if there was the financial justification for it, the environmentalists will sue until everyone gives up. As for M Pechner's comment that "the folks from the Port of Humboldt Bay who obviously know a lot more about traffic, potential traffic, customers, etc." what makes you think that? They are elected to that post and in looking at the commissioners bios, I don't see anything that would lead me to believe that they know more about building a container port than most of the people posting on this board. Also exactly what financial risks are either the commissioners or Woodside Consulting taking? I don't see where any of them are using their own money, everything is being done with public money (including their salaries). While the south end of the NWP will most likely run again in some form, the North end and the container port are nothing more than wishful thinking.
