Thanks for posting this news, with nice photos.
Last month, I had contacted SMART with a recommendation that a "gold spike" be created for this event. Got the sound of one hand clapping. Hmmm.
Incidentally, just around the curve in second photo is a neighborhood that threatened lawsuits over the use of creosote ties (at grade crossings) while objecting to the stockpiling of track materials in the RoW behind their houses. Given the enviro-Nazi and litigious tendencies of these Marin County residents, I think SMART and its contractors wouldn't dare make a spectacle here with a ceremony.
Just get 'er done.
