Talks have stalled out between the shippers and the Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad late Friday afternoon.
The railroad announced a step surcharge on top of the current rates to move freight over the Siskiyou’s in Northern California and Southern Oregon effective at the end of May..
Last week Timber Products Company spokesman Eric Voos said the railroad wanted to implement a $3,000 surcharge on top of the current freight rate of $650 to $800 per rail car by the end of May for his company.
Representatives from Timber Products and Roseburg Forest Products notified the railroad that the surcharge for hauling veneer and logs is cost prohibitive.
Timber Products ships veneer from its facility in Yreka, California to its other plants in Medford, White City & Grants Pass.
Roseburg Forest Products ships logs and veneer from its plant in Weed, California to their plywood plants in Riddle and Dillard, Oregon.
Calls to CORP, RailAmerica and to their public relations representative at Tilson Communications have not been returned.
