I heard yesterday that humans have polluted the planet more in the last fifty years than the rest of the entire time we've existed. Sounds like a PSA for Greenpeace because it's more the developing countries that are polluting the environment. 14,000 cars a day added to the road in China as it industrializes.
The only real measures that North America can improve it's impact is to do the following:
-improve energy use in the house
-change the type of energy that vehicles use
-buy locally
Those three things would change things a whole lot here.
The real impact is; the developing world is not likely to change from horse and carriage to an electricity fuelled mode of transport. There is a lot of fossil fuel burning to take place before the full tranition to modes of ultra-modern transportation. Consider how many countries' populations' are now able to afford a car for the first time.
ANYWAYS-----
Have there been any sucessful attempts at using salt water to "weed" the ROW? I think the imbalance in the PH of the soil will limit the plants. Fill tank cars with ocean water and spray where needed. I guess it may need drier days and more water because it wouldn't be a concentrated chemical. So what? Salt water is free.....
