Here is something I found on the S.M.A.R.T. facebook site that I thought would be interesting.
[Mike Pechner] Northwestern Pacific Railroad had a major tress-passing incident at around 12:20 pm on Hopper St. in Petaluma about three blocks south of he Depot.
[Mike Pechner] During a back up move to couple a cut of freight cars, a man and a woman with two bikes and a trailer for a small child attempted to cross main one and main two as we began a backward move. Our conductor and myself told them not to cross and proceeded to do so as the trains was backing up. The couple screamed profanities at us as we told them that the trains was moving and they continued to cross the tracks. They DID not heed our verbal warnings and continued to cross. They were in visual contact with the train and completely disregarded our pleas not to cross. We had to radio the engineer to stop the move when the couple were on the tracks only about 5 car lengths away from the rear of our train. Mike Pechner, Northwestern Pacific R.R.
