Beg to differ. The raison d'etre of the Palmdale deviation is to provide commute service enabling massive sprawling of the high desert. Ergo you need many stops to get the most tracts and strip malls.

Besides you could re-introduce service to the east via a connection at Mojave. No more of a joke than this fiasco which I sometimes call "TehaVegaSkyRail".

By your implied logic I-5 should be routed via Tehachapi.
