An earlier thread mentioned that the UP closed their Moscow, Id agency with the retirement of Frank Schneider, actually the Moscow agency lasted until the sale to Watco. The final agent was "Bunny" Bentley. After Frank retired, the agency was moved to a room in the University Inn Best Western, the same Hotel the train crews stayed at. Prior to the trains departure they would go to the agents room and get warrants and switch lists off his fax machine. Shippers were supposed to use the 1-800 number so all Bunny had to do was feed the fax machine and take care of the occasional problem that the 1-800 people couldn't deal with. My understanding is that the State of Idaho wouldn't let UP close the agency until UP left the area. Frank still resides in Moscow. The University Inn had live stand up comedy on Wednesday nights and we used to get together for that each week.
Comedy ended shortly after the UP sold out---Don't think it was related but.....a whole lot of fun ended all at the same time.
