The Sumpter Valley has and does use the trustee gang from the local jail in Baker City from time to time. Several years ago the gang set a record of 660 ft of handlaid rail in one hot summer day. The rr sent a pick truck loaded full of pop back with them to the jail as a reward for a job well done.
